Origin of the Strike Stick

ENGINEERING THE COMPLETE SYSTEM

The Surgical Strike Stick began with the idea that a harpoon could be approached differently — not simply as a shaft to be thrown or a grip surface to be treated, but as an integrated system engineered around hand position, balance, control, rigging, and retrieval.

The objective was greater control. That meant looking closely at overall length, component placement, hand position, balance, rigging, and what happens before, during, and after the throw.

Built for strength, penetration, and reliable landing of large pelagic fish.Development moved through design, fabrication, prototyping, offshore testing, evaluation, and refinement. Grip geometry and placement were developed in relationship to shaft balance and overall configuration. Component locations were evaluated, rigging was reconsidered, and each revision was measured against its intended function — retained, refined, or discarded according to what testing demonstrated.

The Throwing Finger Grip emerged from that process as a defined physical reference for the throwing hand. Its purpose was to establish the hand position intended by the design before the throw begins and connect that position directly to balance, control, and release.

The Rigging Retrieval Fin extended the design beyond the throw, providing a purposeful means of controlling and retrieving the rigging after deployment. Developed in direct relationship to the overall harpoon, it became another integrated element of the Surgical Strike Stick system.

Offshore testing continued to drive refinement. Prototypes exposed relationships beyond what drawings and measurements alone could reveal. Geometry, placement, balance, and component interaction were repeatedly evaluated until the system performed as intended.
